Undefeated. Battle-tested. Still hungry.
Collin Tingley has put together one of the most impressive seasons of any wrestler in the Houston area this year. The Cy Woods High School junior is currently ranked #2 in Houston at 126 lbs, remains unbeaten on the season, and most recently captured a title at the Cy Fair Invitational, the largest high school wrestling tournament in the state.
A state qualifier last season, Tingley enters the stretch run with one clear objective: turning last year’s experience into a spot on the state podium.
Built Through Losses
Tingley’s wrestling journey didn’t begin on the mat. He came into high school with seven years of jiu-jitsu under his belt before picking up wrestling as a freshman. After competing in CFISD events and joining a club program, he began to see what was possible—but it was what didn’t happen that truly flipped the switch.
After falling short of placing at state, Tingley made a decision that has defined his rise: total commitment.
“Every time it’s always me losing a match I could’ve won,” he said. “And it makes me work harder.”
That mindset—using disappointment as fuel—has been the through-line of his development.
Quiet Work, Loud Results
Ask what separates him, and Tingley doesn’t hesitate: work.
He’s training every day, stacking sessions, and putting in hours that most people never see. It’s not flashy. It’s not public. But it shows when the whistle blows. His pace, composure, and consistency this season reflect someone who’s prepared for long matches in March—not just highlights in January.
The Circle Behind the Success
No run like this happens alone. Tingley credits his family—his mom, dad, and sister—for their constant support, his teammates for sharpening him in the room, and his coaches for holding the standard high every day.
“They’re always pushing me to be my best,” he said.
Wrestling With Joy
Despite the intensity of his goals, Tingley keeps a simple message at the center of his approach.
“Have fun while you wrestle,” he said. “It shouldn’t just be work, work, work.”
It’s a reminder that even at the highest level of Texas wrestling, enjoyment and excellence don’t have to be opposites.
What’s Next
With an undefeated season, a major tournament title, and the confidence that comes from hard lessons learned, Collin Tingley isn’t chasing attention—he’s chasing top three at state.
And if his season so far is any indication, he’s right where he needs to be.
(Also, for anyone wondering—he’s hit Ultimate Champion in Clash Royale six times. Make of that what you will.)
